Cleveland Museum of Art Welcomes Summer with Annual Solstice Party

Summer Solstice Party features all-night music, food, drink and dancing

CLEVELAND (May 4, 2011) – For the third year, the Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA) invites the community to celebrate the beginning of summer's long days and hot nights with the annual Summer Solstice Party on Saturday, June 25 from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Guests will globetrot via performances on the main stage by musicians from around the world, and the museum's galleries will be open until 2 a.m. From grooving to Afro-Saharan sounds to a rogue marching band, partygoers will eat, drink and dance the night away.

Tickets go on sale Monday, May 9 and may be purchased by calling CMA at 216-421-7340 or visiting www.clevelandart.org.

WHAT:

  • Summer Solstice Party

WHERE:

  • Cleveland Museum of Art, 11150 East Boulevard, Cleveland.

ADMISSION:

  • From 6 p.m. until 2 a.m., general admission is $175 per person, $125 for CMA members and includes hors d'oeuvres and open bar from 6-8 p.m.
  • From 7:30 p.m. until 2 a.m., general admission is $60 per person, $40 for CMA members, and free admission for CMA members at the Fellow level or higher and includes appetizers and cash bar.
  • From 10 p.m. until 2 a.m., advance tickets are $15 per person, $20 per person at the door and includes snacks and cash bar.

MUSIC:

  • Moon Hooch, 6 p.m. – Two saxophonists and a drummer will provide an ambience of shimmy and shuffle from the platforms of New York City subways.
  • Group Doueh, 7:30 p.m. – Making their first-ever tour of the U.S. from the desert lands of the Western Sahara, Group Doueh will balance Afro-Saharan grooves with transcendental pop and blues elements.
  • Chicha Libre, 8:30 p.m. – Modern day purveyors of Peru's cumbia music – a dynamic and fun melding of African, Latin and South American cultures.
  • Mucca Pazza, 9:45 p.m. – This band from Chicago will usher in the later hours with their brilliantly crafted insanity, updating starchy marching band music with a strong dose of mayhem.
  • Dam-Funk & Master Blazter, 11:00 p.m. – The fast-rising star pulls 70s and 80s-style dance floor funk and forward-thinking disco up to the music of right now.
  • Sofrito Soundsystem, 12:30 a.m. – Comprised of DJs Hugo Mendez and Frankie Francis, creators of legendary warehouse parties and the Tropical Discotheque in East London. They rejoice in the heaviest rhythms from Africa, the Caribbean and South America.
