Seventh Annual Wearable Art Fashion Show and Boutique Showcases Regionally Designed Garments, Oct. 17

Sales of these one-of-a-kind fashion designs and accessories benefit the Cleveland Museum of Art's textiles collections

CLEVELAND (Sept. 27, 2010) — The Textile Art Alliance of the Cleveland Museum of Art hosts its seventh annual Wearable Art Fashion Show and Boutique on Sunday, Oct. 17, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the LaMalfa Conference Center, Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites, on 5783 Heisley Road in Mentor.

The Wearable Art Fashion Show and Boutique features one-of-a-kind wearable art clothing and jewelry for day and evening. Fashion designers from Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Michigan will be showcasing artist designed and crafted garments, jackets and accessories for stylish women of all ages, shapes and sizes. Cleveland fashion enthusiasts will have the opportunity to meet the designers and brighten their wardrobes with the newest trends. This year features 17 new boutique vendors as well as clothing and accessories for girls (ages 1 to 12), making the event truly multi-generational.

During the fashion show, Cleveland actress Paula Duesing will comment on the style and technique of the wearable art as models walk the runway while guests enjoy lunch and live music. About 50 percent of the fashions will be by new artists. Sponsors Nagada, whose clothing collection features contemporary garments of hand-woven Egyptian fabrics and designs, and Fine Points, a shop that specializes in clothing with an imaginative perspective, will take part in both the fashion show and boutique.

The boutique area will showcase wearable art pieces crafted by 50 regional textile artists before and after the fashion show. All items modeled on the runway will be available for purchase.

The entire schedule features:

  • 10:30 a.m. Boutique preview shopping for patrons of the fashion show.
  • 1 p.m. Lunch, fashion show and musical entertainment.
  • 3 to 5 p.m. Boutique and fashion show items will be for sale to the public.

Patron tickets are $45 and include the exclusive preview boutique shopping, fashion show and luncheon. Seating is limited. Please purchase tickets by Oct. 11. Afternoon boutique shopping, from 3 to 5 p.m., is open to the public with a $5 entry fee at the door. The Wearable Art Fashion Show and Boutique is supported by Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites LaMalfa in Mentor. Valet service for the day is provided by Park Avenue Valet.

The Textile Art Alliance
The Textile Art Alliance (TAA) is an affiliate group of the Cleveland Museum of Art. Its mission is to increase appreciation of the textile arts through lectures, workshops and exhibitions, and to enlarge the textile collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art.
