Description

Berkeley #42 appears to be a work of West Coast abstract expressionism. Yet the landscape and climate of Northern California influenced Diebenkorn while painting his expressive Berkeley series, which actively harnesses a push/pull relationship between representation and abstraction. By looking at the painting's lower half, one can see a jagged coastline arcing upward, as if viewed from an airplane.
