Solicitudo Rustica (meaning Rustic Solicitude or Rustic Cares) was based on drawings Pieter Bruegel made during his trip to Italy through the Alps between 1551 and 1552. Bruegel joined the Antwerp artist's guild around 1552 and moved to Brussels around 1568. He made drawings and designs for prints from nature, a practice that had seldom occurred in the Netherlands previously and would be extremely influential for subsequent generations.
