Description

At the time Roy Lichtenstein made this print, offset lithography was a commercial process and was not used for artworks, but it appealed to his interest in blurring the boundaries between “lowbrow” and fine art. The technique complemented his use of imagery from American popular culture, such as this woman cropped from a comic strip. Lichtenstein gave the work a mass-produced aesthetic by enlarging and prominently featuring the regular pattern of dots that characterize offset printing.
