Description

One of the most spectacular public dances of the Pueblos, the Corn Dance promotes the ripening of corn and a successful harvest. It is held annually in early August at Santa Clara Pueblo. In addition to the tempera nearby from about 1924, Baumann made numerous graphite sketches of the celebration, dated August 4, 1919. Corn Dance Santa Clara is part of the New Mexico Portfolio, 12 color woodcuts of landscapes and historic sites around Santa Fe. The group also includes Cliff Dwellings, Sanctuario Chimayo, and San Geronimo Taos, all displayed nearby.
