Did You Know?

This woman shown here, writer Charis Wilson, married Weston three years later.

Description

Weston’s views of empty dunes near Oceano, California, broke with earlier narrative depictions of western landscapes. Charis Wilson accompanied him on this shoot as a spectator, but entranced by the empty beach, took off her clothes and rolled down a steep slope. Weston turned his camera away from the distant vistas and photographed her instead, creating one of his most famous series of nudes.
