Description
Born in Australia, Martin Lewis spent most of his life in New York, where he focused on printmaking. Around 1919, Lewis taught Edward Hopper (1882–1967) how to etch and in turn may have learned something from his pupil, since his prints often express a lonely spirit similar to Hopper's work. This drawing is a study for Corner Shadows, an etching Lewis produced on commission for the Print Club of Cleveland.- American Drawings from the Permanent Collection.
