Did You Know?

Vassily Kandinsky trained and worked as a lawyer before beginning his artistic career at age 30.

Description

The title of this print suggests both its cosmic imagery and Vassily Kandinsky’s exploration of various printmaking techniques—each offering their own world of experimentation—throughout the portfolio Small Worlds. The project consisted of etchings, woodcuts, and lithographs that each emphasized the unique qualities of the process used to make them. The bright, flat tones of this color lithograph relate to Kandinsky’s work at the Bauhaus, an experimental art school in Germany where he taught color theory beginning in 1922.
