Description
Feininger loved fine quality handmade papers, particularly those from Japan which are relatively soft and thus have a capacity for absorbing the ink, an essential quality in the printing of woodblocks. The resulting rich, deep, satisfying black of a successful proof is the ultimate in the fulfillment of a perfectly cut block. This impression of The Virtuoso, printed on yellow Japanese Kozo paper, is the only one known.- Themes and Variations: Musical Drawings and Prints.
